At this tasting we reveal the secret France with a tasting of wines from lesser known French regions that are packed with just as much personality as their more famous neighbours.
The Jura region borders Switzerland and is famous for it's eccentric grape varieties, including spicy Savagnin and oxidised wines known as vin Jaune. As well as the more funky styles you'll also find more accesible wines that are still stamped with local character. We'll try a Jura wine with a taste of the local Comte cheese.
Beyond Bordeaux, south-west France is home to many smaller regions each with their own 'terroir'. Wines from Bergerac in the Dordogne struggle in the shadow of nearby Bordeaux but there's alot to discover and the wines remain reasonably priced. Gaillac used to rival the finest Bordeaux and today it's famous for a diverse range of wine styles, many made from local indigenous grape varieties. You'll taste a range of wines that showcase why south-west France deserves to be in the spotlight matched with a local French charcuterie.
Finally, where France meets Spain, Rousillon is a rugged, mountainous landscape that runs from the Pyrenees down to the Mediterranean sea. The sunniest region in France produces a range of styles including red, white, rose & fortified sweet wines known as vin doux naturels. We'll explain why the Spanish influence is so strong and taste a couple of delicious wines from this historic region.
