Midsummer's English Wine Tasting with guest speaker Lee Dyer from Winbirri Vineyard
Join us as we celebrate the success of wine made from locally grown grapes as we taste a range of wines from East Anglia and beyond.
Our tasting starts with a glass of fine English Fizz. For decades we've been beating the French at their own game with English Fizz regularly being voted better than similarly priced Champagne. We'll reveal why it's soooo good and taste a fine example from West Sussex served with fresh juicy English strawberries.
However, Fizz is only one side of the story. From Cornwall to Norfolk England's cool-climate vineyards are producing quality still wines in a variety of styles. A youthful, innovative industry is still experimenting and the wines get better and better, year after year.
We are delighted to be joined at this tasting by Lee Dyer, Winemaker at Winbirri Vineyard in Surlingham. Winbirri put wine made in Norfolk on the world wine map when their 2015 vintage Bacchus won best value single white varietal wine in the 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards. Lee will share his incredible story with you and explain why the local Norfolk climate is perfect for growing great quality grapes. Lee will then tutor you through a tasting of a couple of Winbirri wines.
Finally, we will taste a couple of English wines from East Anglia and around the country that demonstrate just how promising the future of English Wine looks and explore which grapes are growing where and why.
A selection of 3 delicious English cheeses will be served alongside the wines.
